What is a Hot Stone Remedial Massage?

hot stoneHot stone Remedial massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body. We may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body like some stones are placed on chakra points or alongside the spine to soothe away tension, relax your body and restore your energy. The hardness of the stones allows to address specific problem areas with more detailed work or deeper pressure. The heat from the stones relaxes muscles and increases the blood flow to the area being worked on which is said to further accelerates the healing process. This increase in circulation and the relaxation of the muscles is also claimed to aid in mental relaxation.

What do you Expect During our Hot Stone Massage?

We begin by applying oil to the body( use organic coconuts oil so after treatment you will not feel oily or it doesn’t stain to your clothes), which allows the hot stones to glide smoothly along the muscles. You are lying face down, and use the hot stones to massage the back.

After the hot stones have relaxed the muscles, we may put down the stones and use your hands to directly massage the skin.

The hot stones may then be placed back on to the body and left for a short period of time.

You are then asked to turn over onto your back. We often place small hot stones between your toes or in the palm of your hand and repeat the sequence.
